Molded-fiberglass travel trailers like Casitas are very much in demand (for good reason). The wait time to buy a new Casita from the factory is 12-18 months, with similar time frames for most other manufacturers. It can be difficult to even find a Casita for sale, and so I put together this list of places to look during your search.
Contact Casita
While the wait time to have a new Casita built to your specifications is 12-18 months, it is sometimes possible to get one new immediately. When people cancel their orders, Casita will sell those trailers on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There are only two downsides:
- You will only be able to choose from what is available (sometimes there aren't any) and won't be able to customize the trailer.
- They don't give you the "sale price," so you're paying more than if you ordered a trailer and waited for them to build it.
Facebook Marketplace
This is the most common place for people to list used Casita trailers. You can start by searching your local area, but you probably won't find any for sale in most areas.
Luckily, there is a website called SearchTempest that lets you search Facebook Marketplace across the whole country or specific regions. It is very useful for quickly looking everywhere.
Craigslist
While it isn't nearly as popular as it used to be, some people do still list items (including Casita trailers) on Craigslist. You can use SearchTempest for Craigslist, too.
Fiberglass-RV-4Sale.com
Fiberglass-RV-4Sale.com is a forum that collects listings posted elsewhere and also allows users to post directly.
This website is quite active and has a sub-forum dedicated to each manufacturer, including Casita.
FiberglassClassifieds.com
This site aggregates listings, mostly from Craigslist. While it doesn't have as many listings as others, FiberglassClassifieds.com does have a handy map.
FiberglassRV.com
FiberglassRV.com is pretty similar to Fiberglass-RV-4Sale. It is newer and doesn't provide sub-forums for each brand, but it does seem to be quite active already.
Facebook Groups
The various Facebook Groups dedicated to Casitas and other brands are very valuable in general, but they're especially useful when looking for a Casita to purchase. Some groups with classifieds include:
r/CasitaTrailers on Reddit
We recently created this r/casitatrailers sub on Reddit and it is the only sub dedicated to Casita Trailers! While we don't have many members yet (please join!), we hope to grow. Classifieds posting are allowed, so we would like this to become a place where people can look when searching for a Casita to buy.
Don't bother with these
There are also places that aren't even worth checking.
It probably isn't worth searching the inventory of every RV dealer that you can find, because they almost never have Casita trailers available.
Similarly, RV Trader and Autotrader's RV section are almost useless.
SmartRVGuide.com is an interesting case. If you search on their site, you'll probably find several listings near you. But when we were searching for our egg, we found that they were all either old listings or simply inaccurate. We didn't receive a single response from any seller with a Casita listed on that site.
A word about scams
Yes, there are unfortunately scammers in the Casita world, too. Usually these are obvious, because the prices are too low. The lowest price for any Casita of any year (even going back to the '80s) seems to be around $8,000—maybe a little lower for very rough examples. So that listing for a 2010 Casita for $1,500 is definitely a scam.
But there are a few other things to watch out for:
- The ad asks that you contact them at an email address, rather than a real phone number or through the site
- The seller only provides vague information (or none at all)
- There is only one picture of the trailer in the ad
- The seller requests payment through unusual means
- The seller accepts a very low price and offers to ship the trailer (only exchange money when you see it in person!)
If you get any feelings of suspicion, do not give them money. In general, Casita owners are very proud of their trailers. They didn't end up with them by accident—they specifically sought out Casita. That means that they should be happy to answer questions about the trailer and can provide detailed information. They should also have plenty of pictures available.
Most importantly, no Casita owner is ever desperate to sell. Because Casitas are in such high demand, it is unlikely that they'd have difficulty finding a buyer. If they're pressuring you or willing to take an absurdly low offer, then either there is something wrong with the trailer or it is an outright scam.
Happy hunting!
Hopefully this information helps you get the Casita you've been dreaming of! These are fantastic trailers and absolutely worth the hassle of acquisition. Sure, you can walk onto any dealership lot and buy an R-Pod right now, but there is a good reason that Casitas are harder to get—people don't let them go lightly!
