How to Replace Casita Tongue Jack with Side-Wind Crank Model

If you follow our previous guide to add a Stromberg Carlson CC-255 trailer tray to your Casita,  you'll quickly realize that there is a problem: the existing manual tongue jack's top crank handle hits the trailer tray upright support. That makes it very difficult to operate the jack without bloodying your own knuckles.

Fortunately, there is a solution: replace the tongue jack with a side-wind model.

This is actually really easy to do. Just order this jack and optionally the footpad:

Your Casita probably weighs a bit more than 3,000lbs, but this jack only needs to lift the tongue—not the entire trailer. However, if you want to be extra safe than this 5,000lb model should do the job

Installation doesn't require any additional hardware or adapters. You'll reuse the original mounting bolts and the Bulldog jack fits exactly like the original tongue jack supplied by Casita.

To install, just follow these simple steps:
  1. Hitch the Casita to your tow vehicle to take weight off the tongue jack
  2. Use a ratchet or wrench to unbolt the tongue jack's mounting bolts (they're 9/16" if I remember correctly)
  3. Pull the original jack up and off the frame
  4. Put the new tongue jack in place with the crank facing forwards
  5. Use the original bolts to secure the new tongue jack
  6. Attach the foot pad using the supplied pin
That's it!

This made a huge difference for us. No more scratched up knuckles and it cranks so easily. As an added bonus, this jack doesn't lower itself while driving like the original jack did (something that caused issues for us).
